The First Presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints

In case you’ve never heard about it yet, the worldwide members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints gather together twice a year for General Conference, held at the Conference Centre in Salt Lake.

We tune in via satellite at our Stake Centres or even at home at the computer or in front of the television two times a year, on the first weekend of April and October.

“On a computer, phone, or other electronic device, we can read, listen to, watch, and share the teachings of the prophets. Anytime, anywhere, we can enlarge our knowledge, strengthen our faith and testimony, protect our families, and lead them safely home.” Robert D. Hales

Everyone is welcome! Click here to watch: 184th General Conference

Beginning tomorrow (Saturday) at 12:00 p.m. Eastern Time, there will be four general sessions. (Saturday and Sunday at 12 and 4 p.m. Eastern Time). And as well, an 8 p.m. ET Saturday evening priesthood session for men and boys.

And…if you REALLY would like to watch it again, it is available ever after at LDS.ORG !!

“The world is moving away from the Lord faster and farther than ever before. The adversary has been loosed upon the earth. We watch, hear, read, study, and share the words of prophets to be forewarned and protected. For example, “The Family: A Proclamation to the World” was given long before we experienced the challenges now facing the family.” Robert D. Hales

Personal Revelation

“These conferences are always under the direction of the Lord, guided by His Spirit. We are not assigned specific topics. Over weeks and months, often through sleepless nights, we wait upon the Lord. Through fasting, praying, studying, and pondering, we learn the message that He wants us to give.

I promise that if you will listen, you will feel the Spirit well up within you. The Lord will tell you what He wants you to do with your life.” Robert D. Hales

To get the most out of attending General Conference, remember to prepare. Ponder concerning any challenges you are facing, then keep a question on your heart, or even write it down. Have you ever tested this out?

Even if we were sitting together listening to the same words you would not receive the same message as I do. You too, can receive distinctly clear answers for your personal situation. The message you receive is personal revelation just for you!

“In conferences we can receive the word of the Lord meant just for us. One member testified: “As I listened to your address, I was astounded. … Your talk was personal revelation directly from the Lord to my family. I have never experienced such a strong manifestation of the Spirit in my life as those minutes when the Holy Ghost spoke directly to me.”

Another said, “I have never before felt so profoundly that a talk was being given to me.”

This is possible because the Holy Ghost carries the word of the Lord unto our hearts in terms we can understand.” Robert D. Hales

I’ve learned to follow this counsel to ponder and question from our leaders . Afterwards, it is very inspiring to realize how much more can be received whenever I’ve made time to record it in my journal. It is a tremendous opportunity to receive inspiration and direction from the Lord.

“As you prepare for general conference, I invite you to ponder questions you need to have answered. For example, you might yearn for direction and guidance by the Lord regarding challenges you are facing.

Answers to your specific prayers may come directly from a particular talk or from a specific phrase. At other times answers may come in a seemingly unrelated word, phrase, or song. A heart filled with gratitude for the blessings of life and an earnest desire to hear and follow the words of counsel will prepare the way for personal revelation.

What a marvelous privilege it is to hear God’s messages for each of us during general conference! Let us prepare well for this great blessing of divine guidance delivered by His chosen servants. For this is no ordinary blessing. “Dieter F Uchtdorf

Have a beautiful weekend!

ensign

I have been pondering on aspects of revelation that were not clear to me and voila! Abundant answers to old questions and more recent issues clarified as though I had sent in my requests to the editor.

It seems that nearly every article in the August Ensign was written just for my needs this month. I’ve thought so before but this fabulous LDS monthly magazine is the best yet!

If you’ve already received your Ensign, enjoy! Perhaps you too, will be delighted to find delightful morsels of greater value than gold.

If you’re not familiar with this magazine-no problem! It is accessible online. Follow the links below.

  • Have you ever wondered when revelation from the Lord will come to you?

  • Do you wonder what the pattern for receiving revelation might be?
  • Can we do anything to receive communication from above?
  • How can our own personal revelation be greatly enhanced?

Mervyn B. Arnold teaches us the differences among reading, studying, searching, pondering and feasting on the scriptures and the pattern given by the Lord for receiving personal revelation-not only to guide us spiritually but also to help us temporally.

  • What conditions of the heart might affect our ability to tune in to and receive messages from our Heavenly Father?

In “Opening our hearts to Revelation”, Patrick Kearon says that  our Eternal Father often communicates with us through revelation as we sincerely seek and are worthy to receive it.

Do you see why I was delighted?! So many rich truths to ponder all in one magazine!  This Ensign is a keeper!

Draw near unto Me and I will draw near unto you;

seek Me diligently and ye shall find Me;

ask, and ye shall receive;

knock, and it shall be opened unto you”

Heavenly Father loves  and cherishes each of us. We were not sent to this earth alone and forsaken.

He desires to guide and inspire each one of us so that we will be enabled, protected and strengthened until we return to live with Him. May we through our faith and diligence continue to receive personal revelation that blesses each of our lives.

Which of these principles have you discovered to be the most enlightening for you at this time?

A church minister and friend that I admire for his gentleness, humility and Christian example, posts daily on Facebook- uplifting and encouraging words that serve to remind his readers of the countless ways Jesus Christ blesses our lives.

While I was away last week this was one of his posts.

“Last evening I said to the crowd that if this was my last sermon, and knew I would never preach another…this is what I would preach…then did so. So, what would you say? If God said you could say something that the whole world could hear and you had one shot at it…what would you say? Would love to hear it….”

Friend, what would your response be if you had one shot at it?

If I had only one shot at it, this is what I’d say.

I’d tell the world about Heavenly Father’s plan of salvation-where we come from, why we are here and where we are going. People crave deep in their hearts to know these truths.

Out of His great love for His children He is desirous that all progress and rejoin Him as His heirs in exaltation. To make this possible there had to be an atoning sacrifice.

He willingly sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to be the atonement-to bear the weight of our sin and pain in exchange for an abundant life; to be blessed with the promise and hope of exaltation-to live in the presence of our Heavenly Father forever.

I’d tell how that Beloved Son-our Spirit Brother promised-and was willing to suffer and give up His precious life that ours might become immeasurably blessed, way beyond what this temporal life has to offer.

Christ loves you and me so much that He willingly walked the mortal path, was killed, buried and was raised three days later. Resurrected, triumphant and powerful He lives to save each and every soul willing to pledge obedience, to do His will and follow in His footsteps while there is yet time.

I’d be sure to mention that during His mortal ministry, Christ promised that He would build His church on the rock of revelation so that we wouldn’t have to travel alone.

“Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven…on this rock I will build my church”. (Matthew 16:16-18)

He promised that the gift and companionship of the Holy Spirit would be available to enable each of Heavenly Father’s children to know the truth, to receive guidance and personal revelation.

Jesus Christ lives. And He keeps His promise this day. He desires each of us to know Him intimately, to recognize and hear His voice and to follow His direction with our whole heart, mind and soul.

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 7:21)

I would share how that promised gift is priceless; His divine touch, His love, His kindness, His understanding, His comforting hand, His Spirit, His gentleness, His inspiration and direction. None else knows and fulfills the heart’s needs and desires so completely and perfectly.

Jesus Christ lives today, is exalted to the highest place and His name is above every name-

“…at the name of Jesus every knee should bow…and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:10-11)

Today, we may choose to not bend our knees in faith and humble adoration. However once the veil of forgetfulness is removed, we will remember that we were privileged to be present when He promised to give His life as the atoning sacrifice.

We will know that He endured His mortal ministry to the very end and arose triumphant. And as foretold, remember-every knee will bow in reverence and with inexpressible gratitude and praise for His faithfulness and infinite love-our Savior and Redeemer.

“Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts”   Hebrews 3:7,15 4:7

The beauty and wonder of the restored gospel is that by the Spirit of revelation we can know this truth for ourselves today.

Do you know with all your heart and soul that Jesus Christ, Heavenly Father’s only begotten Son, is Lord and Savior of us all?! He lives to lead His church in these latter days.
